As we are all feeling at the moment. For those outside of the circle of Rare, i have been made or am in the process of being made redundant from my job as a concept artist, i am not alone and my feelings are not only for those who are going through this trying time with me but also with the people who I leave behind, some seriously skilled people have had their world shaken and are left feeling pretty insecure and demotivated after the process of the last few months, i wish them all the best, along with hoping that, for me and the people who share my fate, this is the start of something greater and an adventure that with any luck, will end in something better. Onwards and upwards!

Inspired by a trip to our wedding venue of all things, on the way out there i saw a roundabout with a monument comemorating an early jet fighter, and being all Treked up at the moment I invisioned a monument sporting a star ship and felt it should be in the grounds of the starfleet acadamy and so i did this quick painting in my lunch break :)

Debbie helped me iron out things that i felt weren't working, allot of people liked the cover with Willi's face on, but it just wasnt working, so, with some help from Debz and comments from a few other peeps I think we've found an awesome cover for the first Candleman graphic novel.

And for those people who liked the other image, me included, its not gone, reassigned to a rather natty inner page that I think looks pretty sweet, hope you guys like it too, all comments welcome, positove and negative alike!

Wilhelmina sheds a tear as more unfortunate animals bite the dudt in Staying in the light WOOT!

It's something Geoff pointed out to me a while back, there always seems to be some poor animal taking one for the team in the name of comedy poor ol Sabastian the weardog got well and truelly forked in Darkness Falls and in SITL... well, you'll have to see, but trust me, there is just enough monster animal mayhem to keep the rspca sweating, obviously Willi got a fair bit attached to this one.

Bin having a stab at the cover for Staying in the light, I want a stylized kinda impacting cover with a similar theme and feel to these!

HOWLEE SHEET! what the heck are these?! they are covers for a mini series i have pencilled out on me drawing board allong with a billion other things for the Cman, anyway, I really like um and think they are effective graphically and would love Staying in the light to have a similar look to its cover, so I had a stab at it over lunch, hmm, skinda there, but I'm not sure if I like it, I may to with the format a bit more, maybe a closer angle on Candles face, but at the moment, I dont think it works, any way, feel free to comment, crit ad advice or just slag it off.

Hay kids, sorry I didnt post yesterday, uh, sure there is a reason, but damned if i know what it is, anyway, in between working and sleeping and the ocasional bit of food, I have managed to continue the epic inking task that is STAYING IN THE LIGHT! here is another little sample featuring Wilhelmina looking a bit dazzled, shocked, excited, or just plain old surprised, you'll have to read it to find out, any ways, hope you like it, its probably one of my fave panels from the whole thing and I didn't manage to kill it by inking it, theres still the colouring yet though... fingers crossed.

As some of you have commented, the lay outs changed, and not for the better, poor blogger, they do their best, no, there is a reason for it, the other layout, as awesome as it was, provided by my bud GO3, was indeed fantastic but i needed to add some contacts the other day and the HTML had changed the point where i had no idea how to do that, so, i stripped it back to a generic template to allow for the connection to other people and networking madness

I did a little pencil sketch of a girl with some knives and then decided to tart it up in a paintilly kinda way, it's not amazing, but I learned alot doing it and have the feaver for doing some more.

When I'de coloured it I thought, this reminds me of the old Hammer films, like blood from the mummies tomb and stuff so I bunged a silly tag line ot 2 on it and made it into a poster type dealio.

Here am some scribbles... what’s my motivation?..
Having been going back through DARKNESS FALLS lately, I have fallen in love with the idea of series again, lots of mini issues that will allow manageable work load and affordable printing yada yada, any way there was allot of contributing factors, any way, thing is Debbie (my Fiancé) and I have stormed out some ideas for short stories and a huge amount of villains for CM's universe over the last few weeks, and they will lend themselves beautifully to micro sagas, the first of which will be CANDLEMAN - PAST LIGHT, which brings me long windedly round to today’s pick, which is a prelim sketch page for the cover of issue#1

Not putting Blogger down, but blinkin' heck, it's awkward. I cannot just simply upload an image to use on the website design, I have to include it in a post so I can access it locally.
I expected there to be a somewhat unique set of problems involved with the new site enhancements, and I am doing my best to make it work as intended. I could just use a remote image hosting service, but I don't want all the content distributed here and there, that's something approaching a nightmare for me.

You may of noticed a post by the mighty GO3 further down the page, he was there at the creation of Candleman and we have ever since bounced ideas off one another in a kind of forging drinking kinda comedic way, up until rescently he has been in charge of running the Candlemania site, whic as of a few days ago, is now NO MORE, it was difficult to maintain compaired to the Blog, so, the plan is to combine the two and have a much more action filled blog space RIGHT HERE, so dont worry, if anyones looking for www.candlemania.co.uk, its not dead, its just being reanimated :)

Greetings, readers. This is Geoff. My role here is to turn this blog into a working www.candlemania.co.uk while enhancing it in form and function (as much as is possible with Blogger), and contributing my own angle on this Candleman nonsense that I helped to give birth to all those years ago. Hopefully some new flash content can be added here, as well as some solid article pages and other spanglyness.

And no, that's not burnt into my palm, it's a prototype for a real-world pair of Mayan jade earrings that Willi wears in "Staying in the Light". I hope to make a couple of pairs of these as promotional items for when the comic finally comes around (don't hold your breath, folks, it'll be a while yet.)
The plan is to cast them in polyester resin with a opaque pale green colouring agent and fit jewellery fastenings into the tops. They will then be presented in an attractive box of some sort, preferably not brown cardboard. They'll be cool and minty.

So, just for fun I doodled this, i am always fascinated by silly cross over comics and such like, superman vs aliens verses terminator vs robocop vs yada yada, so i drew BUFFY VS ALIENS, cant go wrong with boobs and monsters as the hammer films proved, if only hammer had made aliens...

Did this little doodle in my sketchy book, thats right, I've started a sketch book, mostly I just use loose paper, but i fell in love with some of the bigger moleskin books and have made myself doodle in them for a bit, just to have a nice collection of pics really.

Here is a prelim doodle for a short Candleman adventure.

As with last years comic con I want to do a short promo comic and this looks like it may well be it. Its based around the Irish folk legend of Rawhead and Bloody bones a kind of child eating monster who likes dark and damp places.

Hay there, ok, here is what my friend calls a JANKEY model, its masically a scruffy scratch build that acts as a concept for the final build, ilike the turm, it sounds so descriptive. Anyway, i had this idea for a vehicle and I cant draw cars n shit, i find it easier just to build it so i rammed this together last night, its real rough and needs loads more doing to it, but i couldn't resist bunging it up, hope you like :)

Right, rock n roll, here is some happy shiny colourful shit! I been off on another one of my Marvel trips this week, cos their characters are fun to draw, this is Psylocke, she was always one of my faves and she was always so FIHINE. This was a relitivly qick pen sketch that I really liked and took to the next faze, I really like her face, it turned out well.

And this is one of my own little dudes. Knight Staff, he was a hero with the Action Hero League back in the day, this is just the inks, but I will tart it up at some point, I thought I'd ram a bit of me own stuff on there cos I know Mr Jackson gets disappointed in me and my Marvel obsession.

Go3 and I have been hammering together the outline for Candlemans creation, so that when I eventually finish Staying in the light, we will be hot to trot with the prequel.
This is Jag-Wah, she is gonna be a minor villain in the creation story, I doodled this head shot and thought it deurved colouring, hope you like :)
